September 2026 Highlight

At Jesus Film Project, they partner with the body of Christ through heart-language media so that everyone, everywhere can encounter Jesus. In 1979 they created the JESUS film, and by God’s grace and the help of partners have since translated it into more than 2,000 languages. Today, their mission has grown to create contextualized media, build ministry strategies and develops innovative tools for the global church to use.

Finch + Kelli Sprouse

About the Sprouses, in their own words...
God deeply impacted both of our lives while we were in college through Cru, and that experience helped shape the course of our lives. We have now been on staff with Cru for 36 years, and in 2019 we transitioned to serve specifically with the Jesus Film Project, one of Cru’s ministries.

We serve full-time with Cru through the Jesus Film Project and are based in Springfield, Missouri. Our role focuses on equipping indigenous believers, churches, and ministry partners around the world with gospel and discipleship resources in heart languages so they can share Christ effectively in their own cultural contexts. This includes helping provide translated media, evangelistic and discipleship films, portable projection equipment, digital tools, and strategies that support evangelism, disciple-making, and church planting, especially in areas with the least access to the gospel. We are also helping advance strategic initiatives connected to the new animated JESUS film, including its future funding, ministry application, and global distribution.

Spencer Whaley

About Spencer, in his own words...
I was very involved with Cru in college and was reintroduced the JFP in 2021, when Finch Sprouse took a group of us to Dubai with JFP. Seeing someone experience something in their own personal language (especially a clip about Jesus) was inspiring and I knew I wanted to play a part in making that happen again and again. I joined staff in 2024, after a graphic design opportunity with JFP presented itself the previous year.

I love helping others lean into the gospel through creative arts. Even playing a supportive role within the ministry, it is a joy to be so close to amazing stories of gospel renewal.

What's God Doing in Jesus Film right now?

  • Finch and Kelli One clear way we have seen the Lord move in the past six months was during a recent ministry trip to the Yucatán Peninsula in Mexico, where we served alongside The Message for Mayans. It was a joy to watch villages gather to see the Jesus Film in the Mayan heart language. In two villages where follow-up results were shared, one village had 70 attend with 100% indicated decisions for Christ, and another had 200 in attendance with 118 decisions for Christ. It was especially encouraging to know that local believers are continuing the follow-up and discipleship so that lasting fruit can come from those gospel opportunities. 
  • Finch and Kelli We have been seeing the momentum around the upcoming animated JESUS film. We are excited that Jesus Film Project is partnering with Director Phil Cunningham and Sunrise Animation Studios on this new project. Sunrise recently animated the David film, and their excellent work has only increased our anticipation for how God may use this new animated version of the story of Jesus to reach families, children, and future generations all over the world.

  • Spencer Whaley After the Animated Story of Jesus (ASJ) was put on hold, JFP began praying for a new animation studio and a new director for the film. JFP has partnered with Sunrise Animation (creators of the new DAVID animated film) to bring the JESUS film to life in animation for the next generation.

Please pray for the new animated JESUS film. Pray for excellence, clarity, and faithfulness as this new animated version of the Jesus film is developed, and pray that God would use it powerfully around the world for evangelism, discipleship, and church planting for many years to come.
Pray that once completed, the existing 2200+ Jesus Film translations can be effectively integrated into the new film so people everywhere can encounter Jesus in their heart language.
The Animated Story of Jesus is getting closer and closer to being fully funded, which has allowed the production of the film to move along very rapidly and smoothly. All of our leaders are aligned and excited with the direction of ASJ. Please pray that the funding would be completed in the next 12 months.
