Serve in Kidslife

We understand that volunteering to serve with kids can be intimidating, but our hope is to help you feel confident and excited about the possibility of investing in the youngest members of our Fellowship family!

Use this page to find answers to some of the most common questions people ask when exploring this eternity-impacting ministry!

What are they doing back there, anyway?

We are fulfilling the great commission!

"Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,  and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you."
Matthew 28:19-20

We’re creating an environment where parents and children feel welcome, safe, and loved. We’re helping kids to know and follow Jesus by building relationships, and teaching God's Word through storytelling, worship, discussion, and play designed specifically for each age-group. We’re doing kingdom-work that will last for generations to come!

Who can serve in Kidslife?

Anyone who is following Jesus and desires to love families and help make disciples! You don’t have to be a parent, a teacher or have any sort of degree! The best volunteers are those who come with empty hands and a servant's heart. Volunteers just need to complete our application, background check, and training process to make sure they are ready to jump in! You can start that process at the bottom of this page!

Is this a good way to connect at Fellowship?

YES! While a lot of couples prefer to serve in the same room—you can ask to be put in a room with an adult that is not your spouse and build your friendship network! With a church as big as ours, it’s hard to feel connected unless you have a touchpoint—and Kidslife is a GREAT touchpoint. You also become familiar with the families who are dropping kids off and connect in that way!

What age groups can I work with?

You can choose to serve in:
Nursery (0–2 years), Pre-Kindergarten (3-5 years), Younger Elementary (K-2nd grade), or Elementary (3rd–5th grade)

We’ll help you find the best fit based on your gifts and comfort level.

What will I actually “do” when I serve?

What you “do” will look different depending on your role, but here’s a general idea—
*Starred roles are most needed
*Nursery Leader
Care for kids, follow the posted schedule in the room of simple activities.
*Pre-K Leader
Build relationships and guide kids through activities provided.
*Elementary Leader
Build relationships and guide kids through activities provided. The main portion of the lesson is taught in Large Group, so you just lead the supporting activities.
*Access Leader
Provide one-on-one support for individuals who benefit from extra assistance and walk through access-specific curriculum, if the child is able.
*Classroom Assistant
Be present in a classroom to help the main leader with whatever is needed and connect with kiddos (this role is perfect for teenagers looking to serve).
Large Group Teacher
Teach the provided large group (elementary-age kids) lesson
Children's Worship Facilitator
Sing or lead/create motions for worship in Large Group
Check-In Team
Welcome families, assist with registration, and guide to classrooms
Curriculum Preparation
Help staff make copies, prepare crafts, assemble materials
Special Events
help plan and execute Fall Festival, VBS, Child Dedication, etc
Childcare
Help with children during church events outside of service times (paid)

Other Common Questions

Does it take a lot of time to prepare before I serve?
For those in Pre-K and Elementary classrooms - takes about 15 mins. We use a wonderful curriculum called BRITE so you are not creating anything. The main lesson is taught during Large Group time (taught by Mr. Dan, usually), so you just need to review the activities/discussion questions so you feel prepared (these are posted electronically in our scheduling program, so you’ll have access multiple days prior to when you serve). All materials needed for the activities are ready in the classrooms.
Other roles require no preparation.
How often would I serve?
Most volunteers serve during one service, twice a month (ex. 11 am service on the 1st and 3rd Sundays). Weekly, once-a-month, and as-needed options are also available.
What if I get sick?
We definitely depend on our volunteers, but we understand that sickness happens! We just ask that you notify Kidslife Staff ASAP so we can find a substitute.
What if I have vacations, work commitments, or time away planned?
That's great! Our scheduling tool allows you to “block out” dates that you are unavailable and list other dates that work better with your schedule!
How long is my commitment?
We ask for leaders to make a 6-month commitment - of course, understanding that “life happens” and things may need to change. If you need to shorten your commitment, we just ask that you reach out to Kidslife staff and have a conversation about what has occurred, so we can support you as well as get your spots covered.
Will I receive any training?
Of COURSE! Kidslife staff will meet with you to cover classroom procedures and safety guidelines, walk you through the “flow” of each service and what to do the whole time! In addition, you’ll get to shadow an experienced leader to get a feel for the role before you commit.
